How To Make A Quick Cushion Cover

The cushion cover started with the idea of planning our daughters birthday party. I love the idea of tea time close to the ground like they do in Japan. Therefore, I needed to find a way to replicate cushions without buying some and using what I already have on hand. The color theme of the party is all light pink with floral and sparks of white. So I ventured on to buy bed sheets to make some quick cushion covers.

Our daughter talked about her birthday every single day for a whole year, I was forced to throw her a birthday party. I wanted it to be special and of course fun. Additionally, unique in a way to invite others into my daughters whimsical world. Cushions became the focus and priority since they had to be sewn. I simply purchased some reasonable bed sheets and made those work for the fabric I needed.

Why We Love Them

As much as we are on a tight budget, we figured to make the party very simple. Also, an easy menu that we could afford. I saved plenty of money by purchasing the sheets instead of buying fabric by the yard.

Regardless of our financial circumstance these covers are simple and affordable to make. I always work with what I have. Since I am a crafty person, a collection of supplies in our craft room make new projects affordable. For example, in this case, I only had to buy the fabric, everything else as far as the ribbon, string, sewing machine are things ready available to us.

I am also quick to think of ways to make projects more affordable and making our visions come true. So even if I had nothing to work with, I would simply buy the bedsheets and cut them out in squares to tie knots across holding the cushion inside. I would make the knotted side be on the bottom so its not visible.

Why This Works

The seems and or knots are on the bottom, not visible to the eye, making the cushion nice to what is visible to the eye. The covers can be washed and used again. Lasting you a while. For an affordable project as this, the reusable advantage is what counts.

We can use this method of creating different cushion covers to remodel the patio room. We can also use bed sheets we have on hand. Sometimes, we can find fabric at a yard sale for a very reasonable price.

This DIY project is easy by simply sewing a one inch edge all around. As well as, skipping some edges in order to fit the safety pin when threading in the ribbon that ties and holds the cover on the cushion.
